Project Description:

Thomas & Hutton was hired by the City of Savannah to perform engineering and design services for the relocation of the existing 48-inch diameter Industrial and Domestic (I&D) steel water main.

The existing 48-inch diameter I&D steel water main was generally bounded by Highway 21 on the west, Crossgate Road to the south, and the Norfolk Southern Rail line to the north and east. The existing water main extended from the City of Savannah I&D Water Treatment Facility within a shared Georgia Power easement/rights-of-way corridor. The relocation was planned as part of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Jimmy Deloach Connector from Bourne Ave/SR307 to Jimmy Deloach Parkway design/build roadway project.

This project included the design for the relocation of a portion of the existing 48-inch diameter I&D steel water main. In general, the project included approximately 460 linear feet of 48-inch diameter water main relocation that crosses beneath the new Jimmy Deloach Connector roadway.
