Thomas & Hutton performed engineering design services and prepared final construction plans for the East Square Bridge connecting the William Shackleford Parkway to the Westin Savannah Harbor Resort and Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.
Concrete pile supported concrete bridge spanning across previously filled Slip 2 area to access the main entrance into the Convention Center. The beginning of bridge connected to DOT roadway work with two lanes, 30-feet wide, and tapered to two lanes, 40-feet wide, at connection to elevated deck structure. The structure consists of concrete pile foundations with concrete pile caps and pre-stressed Type III AASHTO girders to support HS20-44 live loads.
Thomas & Hutton responded to the RFI’s on the project to assist GDOT personnel in construction administration and inspection on the project. The work was coordinated with multiple projects and disciplines as a part of the overall convention center project. Schedule was a critical component on this project and Thomas & Hutton’s quick response and resolution of questions helped keep the project on schedule.
