Thomas & Hutton was hired by the Georgia Air National Guard to provide surveying and engineering services for repair and replacement of concrete aircraft parking aprons located at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
The project encompasses repairing and/or replacing approximately 110,000 square yards of concrete aircraft parking aprons. Thomas and Hutton performed a topographic survey of the parking aprons using GPS RTK surveying. The survey was performed consistent with the grid pattern of the existing pavement. Approximately 3,900 shots were taken on the existing concrete to assist with design of new pavement. As part of the scope of services, Thomas & Hutton created a topographic triangulated irregular network (TIN) of the existing pavement surface.
