Project Description:

Thomas & Hutton performed structural assessment and design, surveying, permitting, civil design, site design, railroad design and construction administration associated with the rebuild and new construction of the Imperial Sugar Refinery, portions of which were destroyed or badly damaged in a February 2008 explosion.

Thomas & Hutton structural engineers assisted with search and rescue services in the aftermath of the accident. Working closely with CEMA, GSAR and local firefighters, Thomas & Hutton played a vital role in determining which structures were safe to enter.

 

Thomas & Hutton also provided structural and civil engineering design services to Imperial Sugar during the plant rebuild project consisting of damage assessments, coordination of demolition activities, new building designs, railroad and infrastructure rehabilitation and designs, wharf design including mooring and breasting dolphins for barge and vessel berthing, permitting, coordination with plant activities and construction management/contract coordination.

 

Thomas & Hutton  construction  management  team  coordinated  more  than 50 contractors on the project in complex working conditions to complete a successful rebuild of the plant.
