provided design, permitting, and construction services for the new 128,000-square foot Jekyll Island Convention Center. The project was part of the Jekyll Beach Village Revitalization project, which included the convention center building, along with various site improvements (roads, water and sewer infrastructure, drainage, etc.) surrounding the building area.
The Jekyll Island Convention Center is the only oceanfront convention center on the east coast south of New Jersey. Designed and built using sustainable design standards, the project is currently seeking to achieve Silver LEED certification. Keeping the fragile ecosystem in mind, as well as the environment of the building, sustainable design included rainwater collection/water efficient landscaping, maximizing open space, innovative wastewater technology, and an 80,000 cistern for storing rainwater.
Specific project challenges included an aggressive project schedule, multidiscipline coordination for successful project completion, and innovative design techniques.
