Project Description:

Thomas & Hutton provided site, civil, survey design, permitting, construction observation, and closeout services for a 113.30-acre tract located on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base known as The Market Common. Thomas & Hutton teamed with Antunovich Associates Architects to create urban and commercial uses coexisting in a “Main Street Style” development, with amenities such as upscale restaurants, shops, parks, jogging and walking paths, lakes, European Style townhomes, and access to main thoroughfares in Myrtle Beach. This project involved coordination of existing utilities to serve new construction, asbestos/lead testing, demolition of existing barracks, and the reuse of existing concrete as pipe bedding and base material for parking lots. Littoral shelves in ponds, vegetative filters, and pervious pavers treated stormwater runoff at higher levels than required by the municipality. Thomas & Hutton provided utility services, drainage, and roads/parking areas. We will be working on designs of more than 18,000 linear feet of additional roadway and utilities to support the development.
