Als zugelassener Berufsingenieur begann Sam seine Karriere bei Thomas & Hutton im Juli 1985 nach seinem Abschluss an der North Carolina State University mit einem Bachelor of Science in Bauingenieurwesen. Im Jahr 2013 wurde er zum Pr\u00e4sidenten und 2015 zum Generaldirektor gew\u00e4hlt. Als engagierte F\u00fchrungskraft in Wirtschaft und Gemeinde dient Sam Organisationen wie der Isle of Hope Methodist Church (Vorsitzender des Kirchenrats), der Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce (Vorsitzender 2017), dem Rotary Club of Savannah (Pr\u00e4sident 2011-2012), der NC State Engineering Foundation, der Savannah Technical College Foundation und war 2013 Vorsitzender der United Way of the Coastal Empire Campaign.
