Our People

Jim Collins, PE

“On a basic level, engineers and planners are charged with designing the physical environment that humans interact with.  That’s quite a responsibility when you consider it. What’s very satisfying to me is creating designs that positively transform our communities for future and present generations. When undertaking an assignment, our first question should be, ‘How can our solutions assist in improving the lives of all parties affected?’”

Born and raised in Savannah, Jim serves as a Sr. Vice President, Principal, and Regional Director for the Savannah office. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and two years later,  joined Thomas & Hutton in 1987. Jim is a licensed Professional Engineer and works with a variety of clients in the public and private sectors. His primary responsibilities include cultivating existing and new client relationships, employee mentoring, and strategic planning. Jim has served on professional organizations, including  the advisory board of Georgia Tech Savannah, Savannah Rotary Club, Urban Land Institute (ULI), International Council of Shopping Centers, and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
