Our People

Ryan Thompson, PLA

“When my daughters ask me, ‘Daddy, what are you drawing?’, I love that I can always respond with,’ I’m designing and planning a place for people to enjoy.’  That’s one of the truly great things about being a landscape architect. We get to design “People Places” and create human-focused environments. Whether it’s a single experience in a small commercial area, a generation in a planned community, or a lifetime in a civic/public space, there should always be a focus on designing for the people that may spend a moment or a lifetime there.”

Ryan oversees Thomas & Hutton’s Landscape Architecture Department. After earning his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia, Ryan joined Thomas & Hutton in 2002. A licensed Professional Landscape Architect and certified LEED Accredited Professional, he and his team of more than 10 landscape architects ensure that clients are provided with unique, sustainable, and innovative landscape, hardscape, and planning solutions. His experience includes recreational planning and design, open space/conservation/sustainable/LEED design, community planning and design, entitlements/rezoning, capacity design, traditional neighborhood design, mixed-use, commercial, retail planning and design, industrial planning, design guidelines, site design and landscape architecture, design development, construction documents, and construction phase services.  His involvement with professional organizations include the American Society of Landscape Architects, Urban Land Institute, and US Green Building Council.
