Our team took a deep dive into the transformation of a 12-acre site on the edge of Downtown Durham—an exciting redevelopment led by Laurel Street Residential in partnership with the Durham Housing Authority. This multi-phase residential project, supported by LIHTC funding, has been in the works since 2018 when Coulter Jewell and Thames (CJT) initiated the effort with the master plan. Since then, CJT has merged with T&H, and the work continues under the unified firm, ensuring consistency and continuity in the project’s vision and execution.
We’ve completed survey, civil, and landscape design for four phases, with construction actively underway on three and Phase 1 set to welcome new and returning residents in just a few weeks!
We explored the site from every angle—roadwork, stormwater, streetscape, and landscaping—and capped off the tour with some well-earned pizza and refreshments at the nearby Golden Belt Warehouse District, another project we’re proud to have helped bring to life.
