Thomas & Hutton provided engineering design services for SC Route 170 Widening. The design was completed in accordance with AASHTO and SCDOT design criteria. The project consisted of the widening of approximately 5.5 miles of SC Hwy 170 from two lanes to four lanes with a median. The project is being completed as a part of the Beaufort County SPLOST program. The design included special consideration to protect the existing tree canopy along the roadway.  Pedestrian and bicycle facilities were also designed and incorporated into the overall scope of the project.

Thomas & Hutton’s responsibilities included planning, topographic surveys, traffic study, roadway design, drainage design, right-of-way plans, right-of-way acquisition, and regulatory approvals.
