Smyrna and Stewarts Creek High Schools Synthetic Turf Installation
Smyrna, TN
CIVIL/SITE DEVELOPMENT

Smyrna High School and Stewarts Creek High School in Rutherford County School District sought to install a synthetic turf on their football fields in time for the kickoff of the 2022 football season. Designing for sufficient grading, drainage, and ongoing erosion control smoothly transitioned the field from traditional grass to synthetic turf. Factors such as creating a sufficiently sized subsurface drainage collection and conveyance system, surface grading consistent with high school football standards, and positioning of the field in relation to the existing tracks went were accounted for Thomas & Hutton’s design for the synthetic turf installation. Both installations included preparing a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to obtain a Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation stormwater construction permit to meet the timeline necessary for the upcoming football season. The new fields provide a durable, easy-to-maintain product for Rutherford County Schools and a reliable, consistent playing surface for generations of student-athletes.
