The South Conway 12-inch gas upgrade is a multi-phase project being completed by SCE&G. The project’s purpose is to improve supply and pressure to SCE&G’s rapidly growing distribution system within the Myrtle Beach area.

Challenges included mitigating disturbance to wetlands, coordinating with multiple regulatory jurisdictions, property owners, and right-of-way agents to facilitate easement acquisition; planning construction activities in very limited work space, multiple horizontal directional drills under major roadways, wetland areas, waterways, and other obstructions.
Thomas & Hutton provided route selection, project planning, route survey and utility locating, easement research and exhibits, easement plats and wetland plats, critical crossings and horizontal directional drills, transmission/distribution pipeline design, wetlands delineation, permitting, and mitigation, stormwater and encroachment permitting, stormwater pollution prevention plan preparation and specifications, record drawings, GIS/field data collection, web-based GIS data management, onsite and bid meetings, and right-of-way/construction staking.
