Thomas & Hutton provided engineering design services for The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island, a 255-room luxury oceanfront resort and spa located on a barrier island off the coast of South Carolina. The pristine resort reflects the style and charm of a grand southern seaside mansion. At $125 million, The Sanctuary is the most expensive resort ever constructed in South Carolina. The resort has five championship courses designed by the world’s leading golf course architects, two world class tennis clubs, a maritime forest, botanical gardens, and two restaurants. Thomas & Hutton’s responsibilities included site development, water system design, wastewater system design, road system design, stormwater drainage system design, and permitting.
