Cold Storage Facility Moves Forward in St. Helena

A cold storage facility has gotten the green light from the Village of St. Helena in Pender County, NC. The ±130,000-square-foot Fresh Continents facility, known as “Project Fresh” has received approval from Town Council. Thomas & Hutton provided rezoning assistance and conceptual planning to obtain a zoning map amendment to change two parcels from residential agriculture to light industrial. Thomas & Hutton will also be providing full civil and landscape architecture.

The office space for the building extends over the Village’s borders into the Town of Burgaw. Thomas & Hutton assisted Fresh Continents in navigating different ordinances between the two governing bodies, along with obtaining a Special Use Permit in St. Helena and water and sewer extensions in Burgaw. The project’s footprint is designed for future expansion and will provide up to 40 local jobs. It will provide local farmers with accommodations for storing their crops prior to shipping.
