17 Jan T&H Project Update: Royall Avenue Drainage Improvements
Construction update from T&H’s Water Resources team on the Royall Avenue Drainage improvements in the Town of Mount Pleasant, SC.
A new 42-inch diameter drainage pipe was installed on Center Street near the Fox Pond and Pirates Cove neighborhoods. This particular section of pipe will provide an upgraded outfall for the Fox Pond neighborhood. This is the first step towards achieving a storm drain system that will ultimately function at a level of capacity that will meet the Town’s current design standards.
A watershed study completed by Thomas & Hutton identified Mount Pleasant’s Royall Avenue Drainage Basin as a priority for improvements. Due to its patchwork development style, the area lacks the critical, modern infrastructure to provide adequate drainage. Installation of new pipes and structures, upsizing old pipes, tidal backflow prevention, and swale reestablishment throughout the Old Village aims to diminish structural flooding during heavy rainfall events.
