11 May Carolina Forest Blvd Widening Grand Opening
On Monday, May 9th representatives from Thomas & Hutton’s Myrtle Beach Region joined our client, Horry County to celebrate the completion of the Carolina Forest Boulevard Widening project! The project widened 5.72 miles of Carolina Forest Boulevard from a 2-lane to a 4-lane road from Gateway Drive to River Oaks Drive. The project includes the addition of new signalized turning lanes at intersections, a landscaped median, eight new signalized intersections to improve pedestrian and vehicular safety, and over 11.4 miles of paved multipurpose path to connect residential & commercial developments for pedestrians and cyclists. The relocation of a 16” water main and the reconstruction of a flat slab bridge and segmental retaining wall were also completed with the project. Thomas & Hutton provided survey, design, permitting, construction engineering inspection, and right-of-way acquisition assistance for the project beginning with the design phase in 2017. Horry County has experienced rapid growth in recent years and the Carolina Forest area is no exception, with multiple new commercial and residential projects in the works. The widening and associated infrastructure will work to ease traffic flow and improve safety.
