15 May Project Spotlight: Byran County’s Fisherman’s Co-op
Thomas & Hutton is assisting Bryan County with the redevelopment of the Bryan Fisherman’s Co-op. The Co-op is a former shrimping facility in operation in the 1970s through 2007. It sits on 26-acres of waterfront property located at the terminus of Fisherman’s Co-op Road and Kilkenny Creek in South Bryan County. The County received a $3 million Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program (GOSP) grant from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and redeveloping the site as a public recreation facility with new launching boat ramps, walking, hiking and biking trails, boardwalks with wildlife observation points, restrooms, a waterfront pier with pavilion, and floating dock with a kayak launching station.
Thomas & Hutton was involved during the due diligence process before the County purchased the property and performed a structural assessment of the existing site components. We are assisting the County with the 2-step application process for the GOSP grant and are under contract for design, permitting, and construction services for the facility. Design work will begin later this year and construction is expected to be complete by the fall of 2024.
