James Thomas, PE of Thomas & Hutton Named One of Charleston’s “Forty Under 40” Young Professionals by Charleston Regional Business Journal

The Charleston Regional Business Journal has selected James Thomas, PE, Principal and Civil Project Manager at Thomas & Hutton for the 2022 Class of Forty Under 40. The Forty Under 40 program honors the top 40 young business professionals across the Charleston region who have excelled in their chosen profession and service to their community. Please join us in congratulating James on this distinguished honor.

James began his career at Thomas & Hutton in 2017 after relocating to the Charleston region following a seven-year role at a civil engineering firm in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His drive to consistently deliver successful projects for clients and the communities Thomas & Hutton works in and positive attitude which energizes all those around him were motivating factors in James being named shareholder in 2021. James is a licensed professional engineer in South Carolina and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. James is a graduate of Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Charleston, serves as an advisor to the Charleston Intern Network, and participates in several local philanthropic efforts.

As Project Manager, James is responsible for the master planning and civil site design for private and municipal clients. James works alongside developers and local and national homebuilders to create communities that will continue to enhance the value of the low country for decades to come. Throughout the planning and design of projects, James works with clients and local leaders to ensure his projects are meeting the demands of the area, whether that be protecting adjacent developments from flooding, mitigating traffic concerns, or retaining existing nature preserves. He possesses an instinctive ability to bring stakeholders together when it comes to a project, giving all interested folks a seat at the table and a place for their voices to be heard.

2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Forty Under 40, which honors 40 elite individuals who have demonstrated professional excellence, led community efforts for positive change, and made an impact that reaches far beyond the Forty Under 40 honor. The Business Journal’s panel of judges had a difficult challenge in determining who would be named to the 2022 Class of Forty Under 40. Every nominee stood out in dedication to their profession and commitment to community service. This year’s class will be recognized at a special event on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at the world-renowned Charleston Gaillard Center from 6-8 p.m.
