T&H Surveyors Teach Survey Merit Badge with Mount Pleasant-Area Scouts

Thank you to Nat Hopper, Perry Gerard, and Tim Benson for lending your time and talent to introduce the next generation of geospatial professionals to the world of surveying! The three members of T&H’s Charleston Region Survey Department joined Richard Beasley (Berkeley County GIS) last week at the Moultrie Middle School fie to assist with teaching all of the requirements of the Surveying Merit Badge to 15 Scouts from Mt. Pleasant Troops 15 and 20. The requirements for the Merit Badge consist of finding and marking the corners of a five-sided lot and drawing a scale map based on gathered field notes.
Nat met with Davidson (Troop 20 Scout and son of Charleston Admin Destiny Bendell) at the Moultrie field Thursday afternoon to assist in setting points and such for the class the following day. The Scouts arrived Friday at 8:45 am, and class ended at about 12:15 pm with all requirements completed. T&H graciously provided a delicious Chick-Fil-A lunch for each participant and an engineer’s pen survey field book.

Shout-out to Nat, Perry, and Tim for making this happen for the Boy Scouts and for doing your part to expose more young people to the surveying field.
