Electric Vertical Aircraft Manufacturing Company Archer to Create 1,000 Jobs in Covington

Thomas & Hutton worked alongside Newton County Industrial Development Authority on site selection for Archer Aviation Inc., an aerospace company planning to locate alongside the Covington Municipal Airport in Newton County. Thomas & Hutton provided civil engineering services related to land analysis for the over 96-acre site and oversaw coordination with local utilities and the City of Covington on water and sewer delivery and access road improvements to serve the area. Our team also consulted with the Airport staff on access to taxiways and height restrictions related to preliminary engineering work. Archer Aviation will produce state-of-the-art electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) at the proposed facility. Archer Aviation expects to create 1,000 jobs and invest $118 million over ten years in Newton County. The project’s location next to the Covington Municipal Airport is congruent with the long-term airport master plan, providing access to Georgia’s interstate highway system.

“Georgia has made fostering innovation a priority as we work with companies to bring the jobs of the future to the No. 1 state for business,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “Our established leadership in the aerospace industry was essential to landing Archer Aviation in Newton County, and we’re pleased to welcome them to the Peach State.”
