Thomas & Hutton is pleased to introduce our class of 2023 summer interns working and learning alongside our engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, GIS analysts, and marketing staff. T&H interns gain exposure to various technical and field opportunities by supporting teams on various projects. As they begin to chart their course as professionals in the industry, join us in welcoming:
ATLANTA
Ben Maxwell is a rising senior at the University of Georgia studying civil engineering. After graduation, he hopes to pursue an MBA to gain business experience and start his career. Ben wishes to apply his knowledge from his coursework in real-world scenarios at T&H this summer. He is originally from Alpharetta but spent most of his life near Tallulah Falls! Ben enjoys playing instruments, primarily guitar, and writing music in his free time.
Henry Richens is a rising senior at Auburn University and plans to graduate next spring with a degree in civil engineering and a specialty in structures. Henry was born in Washington, DC, and moved from Memphis, Tennessee, to Atlanta, Georgia. He has previous internship experience in construction and construction delay analysis. Henry enjoys playing sports and plays intermural soccer and flag football for his fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon. His other hobbies include salt and freshwater fishing. He hopes to gain exposure to civil engineers’ daily tasks and responsibilities this summer. Recently, Henry completed an environmental engineering course at Auburn and is excited to expand his knowledge of designing wastewater and water facilities during his summer internship at T&H.
BUFORD
Sydney Mehnert is a rising senior at The University of Georgia pursuing a degree in civil engineering! After graduation, Sydney plans to get a job in the Atlanta area and pursue her dream job, designing project sites for residential developments. She hopes to improve her AutoCAD skills and learn to use Civil3D this summer at T&H! Sydney is originally from Gwinnett County but spent six years in Iowa before relocating back to Gwinnett. In her free time, Sydney enjoys crafts, especially cross-stitching, and hanging out with her friends.
Emily Williams attends Georgia Tech and plans to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering this summer and will begin graduate school this fall! She previously was an undergraduate research assistant for a research group at Georgia Tech. Emily hopes to gain experience working in the civil engineering field and to learn the specifics of civil design this summer! In her free time, Emily enjoys reading, playing the piano, and spending time with her friends and family!
Calib Yang is a rising Junior at the University of Georgia studying economics. While at T&H this summer, he looks forward to strengthening his team-building skills and working with others! Outside of work and school, Calib enjoys golfing and shoe collecting.
Tyler Bare attends the University of North Georgia and is studying marketing. He is a chess club member and hopes to further his teamwork skills while on the survey crew this summer!
CHARLESTON
John Thomas attends Clemson University and will be a junior in the fall. John is majoring in civil engineering and joins T&H’s Civil Department! John looks forward to gaining knowledge about civil design this summer and defining his career goals after graduation. He was raised in Mount Pleasant and enjoys boating and surfing.
Luke Conneff is a rising junior at Clemson University studying civil engineering. Luke has previous experience in machinery manufacturing, and he joined T&H’s Civil Department this summer. He hopes to gain experience in his field at T&H. Luke was born and raised in Savannah, GA, and enjoys boating and tennis in his free time.
Robbie Street is a rising sophomore at Clemson University, planning to major in civil engineering. He joins T&H’s Survey Department this summer and is excited to use the knowledge from his classroom experiences in his work at T&H. Last summer, Robbie worked at Duck Bottom Plantation in Camden, SC. Robbie is an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, boating, football, and golf!
Isabella Short is a rising junior at Clemson University, majoring in environmental engineering! This summer, Isabella will be working with T&H’s environmental team! While at T&H, she hopes to see what environmental engineering looks like in a professional setting. Isabella is from Atlanta and has traveled to 10 countries and counting! Outside of her studies, she enjoys playing golf and pickleball.
Christian Zimmerman is a rising senior at Clemson University, graduating next spring with his degree in civil engineering. He joins T&H’s Water Resources Department this summer! Christian interned in 2022 with the Town of Mt. Pleasant Engineering & Development Services and hopes to further his understanding of water resources and hydrology while at T&H. He is a New Jersey native but has called Mt. Pleasant home since he was 12. Outside work and school, Christian enjoys watching sports, playing video & board games, fishing, and cooking on his smoker.
CHARLOTTE
Ryan Gold is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Clemson University and will be a senior in the fall. After graduation, he plans to enter the civil engineering workforce, and his dream job would be to work as a civil design engineer! Ryan is looking forward to acquiring practical knowledge and experience in civil engineering working in T&H’s Charlotte Civil Department this summer. He was born and raised in Charlotte but moved to Fort Mill, South Carolina, for his first year of high school. Ryan enjoys fishing, cooking, and collecting Lego sets in his free time!
COLUMBIA
Erin Boyer is a rising junior at Clemson University pursuing an environmental engineering degree. A South Carolina native, Erin hopes to learn about the different career paths available to engineers during her time at T&H this summer! Outside of work and school, Erin enjoys being outside, whether tanning or playing golf!
Matthew Walter is a rising junior at Clemson University pursuing a degree in civil engineering. After graduation, he plans to begin working immediately, and his dream job is to work as a structural engineer! Matthew grew up all over the United States but resides in Blythewood, South Carolina! Outside of his studies, Matthew enjoys playing sports like golf, disc golf, and pickleball.
Phillip Livingston is a civil engineering major at Clemson University and will be a junior when he returns to school in the fall! This summer, Philip looks forward to learning more about civil engineering in general and the real-world applications of what he is learning in the classroom. Phillip enjoys fishing, golfing, and spending time with friends and family!
DURHAM
Alberto Sarraff Lopez is a rising senior at NC State studying environmental engineering. This summer, Alberto hopes to absorb as much knowledge as possible from professional engineers and gain experience in surveying, AutoCAD, and modeling! After graduation, Alberto plans to work for an engineering company and would love to work on water and wastewater projects. Alberto enjoys watching TV shows, soccer, and MMA in his free time!
GREENVILLE
Lee Mikell is a rising senior at Clemson University majoring in civil engineering! He returns to T&H’s Greenville Civil Department after interning with us last summer! After graduation, Lee intends to begin working; his dream job is to own a golf course. Lee hopes to learn more about civil engineering consulting this summer! A Columbia, SC- native, Lee enjoys playing golf, fishing, and hanging out with his friends in his free time.
Kinzer Hurt is a rising senior at Clemson University earning a degree in Landscape Architecture and joins our Greenville Landscape Architecture Department as an intern. He spent last summer with another regional engineering firm and looks forward to learning more about the engineering market and participating in exciting and innovative projects at T&H this summer. This past year Kinzer served as President of the Clemson Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and hopes to pursue a career in urban planning after graduation next spring. Outside of his academic pursuits, Kinzer enjoys playing piano, building scale models, and traveling.
MYRTLE BEACH
Aidan Wisler is a rising senior at the University of South Carolina studying civil engineering. After graduating, Aidan plans to move near his family and make a life for himself. When he pictures his dream job, Danny imagines collaborating with his coworkers to improve his craft daily. While in the T&H Civil Department this summer, Aidan hopes to understand better the relationships between civil engineers, clients, and construction firms while seeing the engineer’s designs implemented into projects. He was born in Maryland and moved to Florida, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. Aiden enjoys sports such as surfing, skateboarding, basketball, and volleyball.
Colby Chestnut returns to T&H’s Myrtle Beach Civil Department for a second summer! We are glad to have him back learning alongside our engineers this summer. Colby attends Coastal Carolina University and plans to graduate in Fall 2023! Colby is a Myrtle Beach native and likes watching NCIS and going to the beach in his free time.
Michael Stanton is a rising junior at the University of South Carolina, majoring in civil engineering with a minor in business administration. This summer, Michael joins the Myrtle Beach civil crew! After graduation, Michael plans to start working and become a licensed engineer. He looks forward to learning about an engineering career this summer at T&H. Michael is from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and likes to go to the beach in his free time.
Danny Funderburk joins our Myrtle Beach Surveying department this summer! He is currently a student at Horry Georgetown Technical College! Danny is originally from Lancaster, SC, and enjoys being outdoors and fishing in his free time! He looks forward to gaining experience in the office and the field this summer at T&H.
NASHVILLE
Logan VanVleck is a rising senior at Auburn University pursuing a bachelor’s in civil and environmental engineering with a minor in business. He plans to pursue his MBA or another post-graduate degree after graduation. In past summers, Logan has interned with other regional engineering firms and is also an active member of Engineers Without Borders at Auburn University on the Guatemala Team! He looks forward to learning more about T&H this summer, the civil engineering experience in Nashville, management and permitting practices, and improving his CAD skills. Logan is from Ashville, Alabama, and enjoys sports, scuba diving, being active, and playing guitar!
SAVANNAH
Allen Yun is a rising sophomore at Kennesaw State University, spending his summer in the Civil Department! Allen is majoring in civil engineering with a minor in music. He has worked as a research assistant at Kennesaw State, where he researched sustainable building materials. During his time at T&H, Allen hopes to gain experience and knowledge in the field and connect with like-minded individuals. Allen was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, and enjoys reading, listening to music, and playing games.
Victoria Grimes is a rising sophomore at the Georgia Institute of Technology pursuing a major in civil engineering! While interning in T&H’s Civil Department, her goal is to gain hands-on experience in the inner workings of a civil firm while applying her classroom skills to her chosen field of work. After graduation, Victoria plans to pursue a career in structural engineering, eventually becoming a project manager and advocating for young women of color in STEM! Victoria is a Savanah native and enjoys painting and reading. She also dabbles in skateboarding and crocheting.
Madi Croasmun is a rising senior at the University of Georgia majoring in civil engineering. She’s back for her third summer with T&H’s environmental crew, and we’re thrilled to have her on board again! After graduation, Madi intends to start working towards her PE. Originally from Effingham County, Madi loves hiking and playing golf in her free time.
Brennan Tison is an intern in the Savannah GIS Department and a rising senior studying Geography at Georgia Southern University. This is Brennan’s second summer interning with our GIS Department!
Jay Patel is a rising sophomore at Cornell University studying Computer Science and Economics. Jay is from Richmond Hill, Georgia. This is his third summer interning at T&H, and his second summer as a GIS Department Intern, having interned in our Civil Department as a rising high school senior.
Montasia Jackson is a rising senior at Georgia Southern and is T&H’s HR Summer Intern! Montasia is pursuing a degree in business management with a focus on human resources. After graduation, she plans to serve in the Navy Reserves and become an HR Manager. This summer, Montasia hopes to understand HR functions in a company better and apply her classroom knowledge to real-world situations. Montasia enjoys working out, reading, and crocheting in her free time.
Ross Monson is a rising senior at The University of Georgia, studying landscape architecture, and joins T&H Landscape Architecture Department this summer. He is from Isle of Hope, Georgia, and enjoys running in his free time. When asked his favorite part of working at T&H, Ross says, “The welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to work with like-minded professionals!”
Elliot Scarbrough attends Kennesaw State and is pursuing a public relations degree. She returns to T&H for her third year as an intern. Elliot looks forward to staying on the marketing team while attending online classes for her senior year. Elliot would be a race car driver if she weren’t pursuing a marketing career! Elliot is a Savannah native and loves to go on road trips to visit long-distance best friends. She loves finding new restaurants and coffee shops and enjoys being on the water!
Anna Collins is a rising sophomore at Georgia College and State University! She is majoring in marketing and minoring in graphic design. This summer in the marketing department, Anna hopes to understand marketing as a whole better and gain experience in her desired field! After graduation, Anna plans to get her masters in marketing! Anna was born in raised in Savannah. She enjoys hanging out with family and friends, going to the beach, and reading!
Mary Margaret Collins is majoring in marketing at Georgia College and State University and will be a sophomore in the fall. This summer Mary Margaret joins our marketing team and hopes to gain an understanding of marketing as a whole and meet new people! She was born and raised in Savannah and enjoys playing volleyball and boating with friends!
Jackson Mercer will be a freshman at the University of Georgia this summer with plans to study civil engineering. This summer, Jackson will be working with our Savannah Surveying crew! After graduating college he plans to become a civil engineer. Jackson was born and raised in Savannah! Outside of work, he enjoys playing golf and hanging out with his friends.
Jacob Rocker is a rising senior at Kennesaw State University studying civil engineering. He joins T&H’s Survey Department this summer as an intern.
