Thomas & Hutton was contracted by our client to assess an ongoing bank erosion issue along a bend on Ralston Creek. The escarpment created by erosion varied from 2 to 10 feet in height. The bend of the creek was wide and upland property was available so we elected to design an articulated concrete block mattress system to armor the bank and protect it from future erosion. The concrete mattresses are 40 feet long, extending well below the waterline and are anchored into the ground at the top. The gradual sloped system created less disruption to the natural hydraulics of the creek, minimizing effects on the adjacent shoreline.
