A mixed-use commercial center, Freshfields Village was the first retail space for the barrier islands and was intended to connect the communities of Johns, Kiawah, and Seabrook Island.  Phase I included 175,000 square feet of retail and office space in 12 buildings, including restaurants and market. The site incorporated design elements, such as roadside swales that implement natural infiltration and sustainable paving materials, such as oyster shells and Belgium Block. Thomas & Hutton provided master planning, site design, roadway design, water and sewer design, stormwater drainage design, permitting assistance, and construction administration.
